Myth and folklore surround us
The Arthurian legend is alive and well, with two peaks of the Brecon Beacons together known as ‘Arthur’s Seat’. Another story, ‘The Shepherd of Myddfai’, tells how a young shepherd won and lost a fairy bride from Llyn y Fan Fach, the fairy lake of the Brecon Beacons.
UNESCO has recognised the region’s importance. The Fforest Fawr Geopark, which lies within the Brecon Beacons and surrounds Penderyn, is one of less than a hundred Geoparks worldwide to exhibit "geological heritage of great significance”.
