Yes – Christmas is on its way and whilst we are sure that most of you, like us, are only just thinking of putting together a Christmas shopping list, there are some who are rather more organised.

St David's Day Celebrations

How do you celebrate St David’s Day?  Are you joining in the carnival atmosphere of the National St David’s Day Parade in Cardiff or visiting the St David’s Day market in the Hayes to browse the craft stalls?

Merry Christmas from the MD

2013 has been a busy and productive year here at Penderyn.  As you might have read in the press we have spent a lot of time setting up our expansion plans for the distillery and having built stock and relocated our bottling line from the main distillery building to our annex warehouse, we commissioned Penderyn’s second whisky still in August 2013, almost 13 years after the first was installed back in September 2000.

Five Vodka Featured at One Aldwych

Each month the expert bartenders at One Aldwych, an award-winning contemporary hotel in the heart of London, take an exceptional spirit and use their imagination and ingenuity to create a collection of creative cocktails.   We were delighted when Penderyn’s Vodka Five was chosen to be featured in their August Mixologist's Muse.

Thank you Pauline!

Pauline Williams, who became one of the first members of the Penderyn team when she joined in 2000, is retiring, having worked at the distillery since it first opened its doors 13 years ago. Technically an administrator, Pauline has been involved in almost everything at the distillery, from bookkeeping to looking after customers and everything in between.

Christmas competition winners

Last week, we invited you to tell us why you deserved a bottle of Penderyn whisky. We received some fantastic entries but unfortunately we could only choose five.

Our Christmas Twitter competition

It’s nearly Christmas, and that should mean two things: reflecting on all that you’ve achieved this year and dropping not-so-subtle hints to loved ones about what you really want in your stocking come the 25th. Today, we’re launching a competition that should help you achieve both aims: tell us what good deeds you’ve done this year to be in with a chance of winning a bottle of our finest whisky!

Whisky in winter

Here in the village of Penderyn you can never guarantee a sunny summer, but our autumns and winters are wonderfully consistent: expect cold, rain, and snow high up in the mountains and you’ll rarely be disappointed.

Penderyn special edition wins 2013 Whisky Bible award

A special edition whisky produced at Penderyn Distillery has been named “European Whisky of the Year” by top whisky expert Jim Murray.  This single cask, single malt whisky is a celebration of Swansea City Football Club’s entry into the English Premier League and is an award winner in the 2013 edition of “The Whisky Bible”

Celebrate St David's Day with a Cocktail

Today is St David’s Day, the patron saint of Wales.  Many of us celebrate in our own way maybe by wearing a daffodil or leek or a favourite of mine, eating Welsh cakes laced with Penderyn!    At the distillery celebrations will be low key as we still need to keep production going.

Christmas at Penderyn

You don't need to be a whisky expert to guess that the busiest time of year for a whisky distillery is the run up to Christmas, and Penderyn is no exception - each year, we work hard to get our quota of whisky out.

Can they do this?

How do you like your whisky? Neat? With a drop of water? It's probably safe to say that you wouldn't opt for whisky in a can.

Can lasers lead to a better whisky?

We've always prided ourselves on being a forward-thinking distillery: our whisky is produced unlike any other, in a copper pot still designed by Dr David Faraday which allows us to distil clean, flavourful spirit using a single still.

Awards Season!

Wales’ only gin, produced here at the Penderyn Distillery, has been acclaimed as one of the world’s best after winning Gold at the 2011 International Wine and Spirit Competition – the spirit industry’s “Oscars”.

The story behind Penderyn’s branding – Glenn Tutssel

Like it or not, branding is incredibly important to the success of a whisky. Plenty of whisky buyers don’t read reviews, and walk into a shop with a blank canvas. For that reason, it’s essential that whisky not only tastes fantastic, but also appears striking – this is especially true of whiskies with less history.
