March Celebrations

March started with the celebration of St David’s Day at which myself and Robert Whittaker, our man in London, undertook a whisky tasting at the Wales Office in Whitehall. The Rt Hon. Mr Peter Hain was very enthusiastic about Penderyn and kindly allowed us to showcase three of the Penderyn expressions at his St David’s Day celebrations.  Subsequently this was written about in Michael White’s political journal in the Guardian. 

The month was marked by a range of other whisky tastings including tastings in South and North Wales and a number of events in London. We were also featured in the Financial Times on St David’s Day which gave us great profile during the celebrations.

Most recently I have just returned from the “Whiskyschiff-luzern 2010” (Whisky Ships) event in Switzerland where for the last few days we have been celebrating fine whisky from all around the world with a great international audience in a fantastic setting in the beautiful Swiss town of Lucerne.



We made many new friends and tasted Penderyn with hundreds of whisky enthusiasts. The pictures show the venue which was set on two lake cruising boats at the harbour side in Lucerne. The event was organised by our Swiss importer, Smuggler, and one of the pictures shows our Swiss importer Yasmin Cordova at the Penderyn Tasting table.

Not only did we enjoy whisky but we enjoyed some great acoustic music as one of our team, Marcus (pictured), who played a number of acoustic tunes including some great ballads and some older rock and roll songs.  These events occur twice a year -  the one in Lucerne is also followed later this year by a similar event in Zurich and if you get the opportunity to attend in the future I would really recommend it.
 


I met a number of our Facebook friends at the event and a number of people who were already familiar with Penderyn but had an opportunity to taste new expressions which they had not had the chance to do before.
