Update from Penderyn Distillery - June 2009

Spring 2009 has been an interesting time here at Penderyn Distillery. In the first week of April 2009 Penderyn celebrated a new national listing with the pub & restaurant chain JD Wetherspoon, who have listed Penderyn Single Malt in all 700 pubs/restaurants in its UK estate.  Penderyn is one of only four malt whiskies that Wetherspoon are offering and we are very proud to take our place alongside three fine Scottish malts as part of their portfolio.

May brought the news that the Royal Institute of Architects in Wales announced Penderyn as a winner of the 2009 RIBA Awards.  The internationally renowned RIBA Awards are given for buildings that have achieved high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment.  The awards have been running since 1966.  Penderyn Distillery was one of only two winners in Wales and we congratulate the Ruthin Craft Centre in Denbighshire for being the other winner this year. Penderyn’s award was presented by assembly government Minister for the Environment Sustainability and Housing, Jane Davidson.

As the weather has improved Penderyn also celebrated an appearance on the BBC1 programme "The One Show" on Tuesday 2nd June where the storey of the origins of the distillery and its special place in the Penderyn village was told.

Over the last 12 months we have been delighted to welcome over 10,000 visitors to the distillery and we are looking forward to welcoming many more particularly now in the summer months that are to come. Don’t forget if you would like to visit to distillery free of charge then please sign up on the web site and come along and enjoy a free tasting of Penderyn distillery spirits as our special guests.

Best wishes

Stephen Davies
