About Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky

Penderyn Single Malt Whisky was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, on 1st March 2004 at St. David’s Hall in Cardiff. Since then, Penderyn Single Malt Whisky has experienced considerable success. It is now found on the shelves of both supermarkets and specialist whisky shops throughout the UK and is distributed to 16 countries, including 28 US states. Penderyn Single Malt Whisky has also won high critical acclaim and a number of prestigious international whisky awards and medals, and is now considered one of the world's finest  premium whiskies.

In 2007, Penderyn Distillery introduced three further brands: Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin and Merlyn Cream Liqueur. Like Penderyn Single Malt Whisky all three have won international recognition and are gaining an excellent reputation in the UK and abroad as premium spirits.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Wales

When you visit Wales why not visit one of the most popular tourist attractions?  Visiting Penderyn Distillery has become one of the most popular things to do in South Wales and is a genuine Welsh tourist attraction.

Penderyn Distillery opened its doors to visitors in June 2008 with the launch of its new purpose designed and built Visitor Centre. The distillery is the only one in Wales and the first to legally distil whisky spirit in the country for more than 100 years.  When you visit Wales you can now enjoy a distillery tour, take a journey through the history of single malt whisky making in Wales, and understand the distilling process at first hand.

The aim of opening the distillery to visitors is to educate and inform people about the ancient art of distilling whisky and to demonstrate the differences between our process and the distilling of Scottish, Irish and American whiskies. In 2013 the Distillery expects to attract close to 35,000 people thus further establishing itself as a landmark of the Welsh tourism landscape.

The Penderyn Visitor Centre represents an investment of £850,000 and embraces

  • A reception area
  • An exhibition of the history of whisky making in Wales including the last genuine Welsh Whisky from Frongoch, near Bala, North Wales
  • A chance to view the distillation process at Penderyn Distillery that was designed by Dr. David Faraday, a descendant of famous physicist Sir Michael Faraday
  • An opportunity to understand the use of water and wood in making whisky
  • A tasting room and a chance to sample Penderyn Single Malt Whisky, Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.
  • A retail shop for Penderyn Spirits and merchandise.
Penderyn distillery is located in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. The Welsh Whisky Company, which owns and operates Penderyn Distillery, is a small, privately Welsh-owned company with 30 employees.
